What CANGC is doing for nurseries in politics, regulation and major issues
Follow CANGC's Nursery One-Voice activities, regulatory and legislative initiatives, and political action committee events by frequently visiting the Legislative-Regulatory tab of the website.
CANGC has full-time advocates in both Sacramento and Washington D.C. to carry nursery's voice to our elected officials and regulatory agencies. Throughout the year, regular updates are provided about key legislation impacting grower and retail nurseries as well as broader issues such as agricultural labor, water, the environment, and business legislation. Follow our progress in Legislative Watch and Regulatory Watch.
Besides advocacy, CANGC is also involved in election efforts for politicians and speaks for nurseries and garden centers on ballot measures through our Political Action Committee, CANGC-PAC. The PAC operates separately from CANGC's legislative advocacy program, and the two coordinate their efforts to give an effective one-two punch of building long-term relationships with legislators, representatives, and senators while addressing specific legislative and regulatory issues. The PAC regularly sponsors events for influential politicians that give a forum for direct nursery dialog where it matters most, in their district. These events forge ties and open doors that help CANGC influence legislation and regulations.
There are three other areas in which CANGC acts for nurseries: Issues Watch—following and participating in issues that disrupt or benefit our nursery community, Nursery Growers Leadership Board—a forum for growers to form policy and conduct two-way communication with our membership and those that provide oversight to our industry, and Political & Issue Fund Raising—activities to support Nursery One-Voice Fund and CANGC-PAC in their invaluable work.
Finally, CANGC coordinates its advocacy and outreach on a national level with the American Nursery and Landscape Association, Irrigation.org, and other advocacy groups on issues of importance to the country and world.
