HR KIT GOOD FOR ALL BUSINESSES

Helping Members Stay Ahead with HR and Its Regulations and Much More!

Helping Members is what we do.  Here are 'business helps' that are researched, updated annually, and provided free to our members:

*HEAT ILLNESS PREVENTION PLAN MODEL...Be Prepared Before the Weather Heats Up!

A Model Heat Illness Prevention Plan that each company needs to have implemented.  We are providing you with a word document that you are able to personalize it by simply placing your company’s name in the plan. Model Plan provided below.  We have other materials at the office for you to purchase to further improve your communication on heat stress: email info@cangc.org to order these materials.

How to Stay Healthy if You Work in the Heat...Member Price: .50 each/100 for $30.00.  This cardstock English & Spanish brochure is designed to be posted out in the field or given to employees so they are aware of the symptoms of heat related illnesses.

Workplace Heat: How to Keep Your Cool...Member Price: $3.00 each/100 for $250.00.  YOU CAN FILE THIS IN THEIR EMPLOYEE  FILE:  This booklet uses full color illustrations to capture attention for those with limited literacy and provides a questionnaire that employees sign so that employers stay within OSHA compliance training all employees on heat stress. It covers the hazards of working in high heat, symptoms of heat related illness, and steps to reduce risk of heat related health problems

*CALIFORNIA KEY EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS FOR RETAIL...(Grower version coming soon) This checklist attached below covers many of the Federal and California laws and regulations covering retail employment.  It doesn’t list every rule and may include some that do not apply to you. Consult an employment attorney for more details. Provided on January 2010. Don Dressler Consulting, CANGC Risk Management Consultant.

*RETAIL AND GROWER WAGE SURVEYS...Participate and we share the results with you.  A business tool to learn what other nurseries are doing and how you match up to your peers.  Ask for a survey link to fill this out online by emailing info@cangc.org

*RETAIL BUSINESS SURVEYS ...A the close of spring, we email our retail members a business survey to find out how they fared the spring season.  In addition, late summer we do a Business and Wage Survey to capture data on the spring season and ask for future projections. We incorporate a wage survey into this business survey.

*HOUNDED FOR DONATIONS OF ANY KIND?  Almost every CANGC member is contacted frequently for one type of donation or another.  Another organization asks for free plants to be used as door prizes at a fund raising function…A high school student comes in soliciting an ad for the yearbook…another group calls to see if you’ll donate $10 to their charity drive.  Read the information provided below on how to handle donations. It also includes a form to be filled out by those requesting a donation.  This is a great way to keep community relations flowing and not bottleneck in frustration on your part or theirs!

*HUMAN RESOURCES KIT -- FREE TO MEMBERS HR kit is on a CD.  It includes Hire and Termination Kits, Workers Comp Injury Guide and Return to Work Kits, and a Sexual Harassment Investigation Kit.  All the information is there for you to access and use.  We have given you the links to the government forms so these will always be the most current for you. NonMembers - $49.95. To order your copy today, email info@cangc.org

HR Tip:  Always keep two sets of file folders on employees.  In one, place their hiring documentation such as I-9 and copy of driver's license, etc.  In the other, use this as your internal file keeping the hiring documentation and filing copies of HR job reviews, write-ups, etc.  If you happen to be audited by the immigration folks you will be asked to turn over documentation so you can give them the one set of folders and be able to hold on to the 'personalized' folder on each employee.

*RISK MANAGEMENT CONSULTANT -- DON DRESSLER is an attorney offers many services to CANGC members. CONSULT with him at no charge and discuss worker’s compensation programs available, drafting or reviewing employee policy manuals, heat stress seminars, and competitive health programs for businesses of all sizes.  Contact: Don Dressler:  Phone: 949/533-3742 or Email: dondressler1@hotmail.com
