Position Summary:
We have an immediate opening for a self-driven, energetic Research Manager! Candidate will collect samples and conduct laboratory tests on water, soil, and plant tissue samples. Right candidate will diagnose and evaluate plant diseases / disorders and recommend preventative and curative treatments. This is a great opportunity for a qualified candidate who enjoys conducting research trials related to the growing the best Woody Ornamentals in the industry!
Key duties and responsibilities of this role include:
Minimum of a B.S. Degree in Plant Science or related field
Minimum of two (2) years’ experience working in an agricultural laboratory including analytical chemistry, plant pathology, and soil science
Knowledge and ability to conduct accurate research trials using basic statistical analysis
Excellent organizational and communication skills
Proficient in Microsoft Office and Excel
Basic knowledge of the nursery industry is highly desirable
Ability to communicate in Spanish is a plus

Horticulturalist
We are a premium California grapevine nursery, located in Sonoma County, which specializes in producing superior quality custom grafted grapevines for the wine industry, as well as meeting the demand for high quality Olive trees of many varieties.
We are seeking a seasoned Horticulturist and Quality Control Specialist to join our Production \ Propagation team. The ideal candidate will have experience with a wide variety of plants, soils, greenhouse operations, pro-biotic methodology, compost tea applications, and will be scientific in their approach to suggesting new and improved methods of propagating and growing grapevines and olive trees.
Key Job Resonsibilites:
Insure that nursery protocols are documented, followed, and updated on a regular basis to achieve the best methods of planting, cultivating, spraying, and harvesting.
Perform on-going review of plant material throughout all stages of development and be able to document and report any negative findings to the company CEO as well as a proposed plan to resolve the issue.
Conduct experiments and trials to discover different and innovative procedures of producing, storing, processing, and transporting grapevines and olive trees. Through these studies and experiments recommendations can be made regarding the development of plant’s that exceed our current high quality standard, have better nutritional value, are more resistant to diseases, and are adaptable to different climates and soils.
Work closely with Novavine’s suppliers to insure that materials we receive are consistent with our protocols.
Submit plant material to outside labs for testing and maintain detailed logs and database of submissions and results.
Manage the insect, disease, and weeds scouting and the development and implementation of the insect, disease, and weed control programs. Insure there is adequate coverage and appropriate application rates.
Position will require about 75% field time and 25% office time.
Job Requirements:
B.S Plant Science or related field; Must have horticultural experience and have a proven track record in the field.
